College Introduction

The College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is a second-tier college affiliated with Shenyang Normal University, formed in December 2015 from the Department of Chemistry and the Institute of Energy and Environmental Catalysis. The Department of Chemistry was founded in 1958, and the Department of Chemistry has accompanied the difficult and brilliant development of Shenyang Normal University, through many relocations and many kinds of trials and tribulations, overcoming many difficulties and creating a brilliant development in the history of the college, laying a heavy foundation for the formation and development of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering; the Institute of Energy and Environmental Catalysis was created in March 2015, and is a university-affiliated research institution led by Professor Zhao Zhen, a nationally renowned catalysis scholar.

The College has two undergraduate majors, chemistry and energy chemical engineering, with 718 undergraduate students. 1987, the chemistry (teacher training) major began to enroll undergraduate students (science), and 2018, the energy chemical engineering major began to enroll undergraduate students (engineering). The College now has two first-level disciplines, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Technology, with 149 graduate students enrolled.2005, the discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology was approved as a first-level master's degree authorization point, 2018, the discipline of Chemistry was approved as a first-level master's degree authorization point, and 2020, the major of Chemistry was approved as a national first-class undergraduate major construction point.So far, the construction of the discipline and professional system with the coexistence of teachers and non-teachers and the cross-fertilization development of science and technology has taken initial shape, cultivating a large number of teachers and various talents with both virtues and talents for the country, and providing high-quality intellectual support and technical support for the national and regional socio-economic development as well as the new round of revitalization of the old industrial base of Northeast China.

After reorganization and optimization of resources, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering has refined and created five advantageous and characteristic development directions, namely, material chemical preparation technology and application, oil and gas resources efficient conversion catalytic technology, air pollution emission control technology, new energy efficient conversion and utilization technology, and complex system separation and analysis technology, laying a good development foundation for the School to build a discipline highland, climb the peak of science and technology, and strive for first-class characteristics.

The School has a high-level innovation team. Zhao Zhen, the Dean of the School and the Director of the Institute, is a Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education, a national candidate of the Hundred Million Talents Project in the new century, and a recipient of the State Council Government Special Allowance. He is also the director of Energy and Environmental Catalysis Engineering and Technology Research Center, a major science and technology platform of Liaoning University, and is a well-known scholar in the field of energy, chemical industry and environmental protection. With Prof. Zhao Zhen as the core, the college has formed a reasonable academic team with high academic level, strong scientific research ability and unity. 73 faculty members, including 60 full-time teachers, including 21 professors, 24 associate professors, 15 lecturers and 58 doctoral degree holders, accounting for 97% of the total number of teachers.

The College has a number of high-level teaching and technology platforms and functional laboratories. The One Belt, One Road International Joint Research Center for Energy and Environmental Catalysis is one of the One Belt, One Road international science and technology organization cooperation platforms of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology; Energy and Environment Catalysis Engineering Technology Research Center, a major science and technology platform of Liaoning University; Oil and Gas Clean Utilization Catalysis Collaborative Innovation Center, a collaborative innovation platform of Liaoning University; Oil and Gas Resources 2 key laboratories in Liaoning Province: Efficient Conversion and Clean Utilization of Oil and Gas Resources and Preparation and Application Technology of Special Materials in Liaoning Province; Microstructure and Properties of Advanced Materials and Separation and Analysis of Complex Systems. Separation and Analysis of Complex Systems; 2 Key Laboratories of Liaoning Universities; 1 Engineering Research Center of Liaoning Development and Reform Commission on Efficient Conversion and Clean Utilization of Oil and Gas Resources; 1 Key Laboratory of Shenyang City on Preparation and Application of Advanced Materials. There is also one Liaoning Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Chemical and Chemical Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center. There are more than 50 functional laboratories such as basic chemistry laboratory, comprehensive chemistry laboratory, large instrumentation laboratory, material preparation and evaluation, and one engineering technology research and development center (located in B11-12, Guanggu United Science and Technology City, No. 73, Qixing Street, Shenyang New District), with transmission electron microscope, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometer, infrared-thermal analysis-mass spectrometer, Raman spectrometer, inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometer, and X-ray diffractometer, Inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometer, infrared spectrometer, physical chemical adsorption instrument and other advanced instruments and equipment, the total value of equipment exceeds 100 million yuan. The total area of laboratories for scientific research and experimental teaching is more than 8,000 square meters, and the area of engineering research and development center is 4,000 square meters.

In the past five years, the college has undertaken more than 180 national, provincial and municipal research projects with a total research funding of more than 60 million RMB. Among them, there are 29 national projects, especially the team of Professor Zhao Zhen, the dean, has been awarded four national major key projects, including the Integrated Project of Major Research and Development Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Key Project of Major Research Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Key Project of Key Research and Development Program of Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Key Project of Joint Fund of National Natural Science Foundation of China-Liaoning Province, with a total funding of 17.94 million RMB, which has achieved the first breakthrough of national major key projects in the school. The faculty members of the School have also been awarded a total of 29 projects under the NSF International (Regional) Cooperation and Exchange Program, the NSF Major Research Program, and the NSF Surface Project and Youth Fund. At the same time, more than 80 provincial and ministerial level projects such as Provincial Key Research and Development Program and Natural Science Foundation have been approved; more than 10 municipal level projects such as platform projects of Shenyang Development and Reform Commission, Shenyang Major Achievement Transformation Project and Shenyang Major Science and Technology Research and Development Project have been approved. More than 230 papers have been indexed by SCI and EI, and 69 awards have been granted at provincial and municipal levels.

Students have a solid professional foundation, and their innovative ability and practical skills are constantly improved. Students have won many awards in competitions such as Chemical Design Competition, Teacher Training Students' Skills Competition and Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. More than 130 students have won awards in provincial and municipal competitions. Students have a strong awareness of graduate school, and the rate of graduate school is over 50% for many years. The employment rate has always remained above 98%, and a large number of excellent talents have been sent to junior high schools, colleges and universities, research institutes and chemical and chemical-related enterprises in various regions.
