The Institute of Energy and Environmental Catalysis of Shenyang Normal University, established in March 2015, is one of the research institutes directly under Shenyang Normal University, headed by Professor Zhao Zhen, who is a special professor of Changjiang Scholar and a national candidate of Hundred Million Talents Project in the new century. The director of the Institute is Professor Zhao Zhen, who is a Changjiang Scholar and a national candidate for the 100 million talents project in the new century. The establishment of the Institute of Energy and Environmental Catalysis marks a new stage in the development of science and technology disciplines in our university.

The Institute focuses on national and regional innovation-driven strategic needs, takes national science and technology major projects and key R&D programs as its guide, and takes the construction of provincial key disciplines and major science and technology platforms at the provincial and ministerial levels as its breakthrough point, and targets major problems in energy, chemical and environmental protection industries that are of national importance, especially the prospective major scientific problems and major common key technologies and products in the petrochemical industry. Strengthen basic and applied research, promote the efficient conversion and clean utilization of oil and gas resources, boost the technological upgrading of the energy and petrochemical industries in Liaoning's old industrial base, provide key technologies to solve major environmental pollution problems such as automobile exhaust emissions and PM2.5 overload, and produce a number of landmark results.
